How They Met

George and Norma’s story begins in their hometown of Paris, Texas, a small town near San Antonio with a population of under 15,000 people. Both attended the same high school, where they were friends before dating. Their connection began with a single date, but then they experienced a lengthy period of time apart. However, George eventually realized Norma was the one, and the couple eloped to Mexico, marrying in 1971.

A Love that Stands the Test of Time

After over 48 years of marriage, George and Norma continue to share an unwavering bond. Through the ups and downs, the couple has remained steadfast, providing each other with love and support. George, who would go on to become one of country music’s most celebrated stars, credits the strength of their relationship for helping him maintain stability in both his personal and professional life.

In a 2008 interview for Artist of the Decade, George shared a candid look into their marriage. When asked how they had stayed happily married in such a challenging industry, he replied, “I guess we must love each other or something. We still have our difficult times, but we have a lot more good times than bad, and the bad times don’t last near as long as they used to.” His words reflect the deep understanding and respect the couple has for one another.

Tragedy and Triumph

In 1986, George and Norma faced an unimaginable loss when their daughter, Jennifer, tragically died in a car accident. This heartbreak was devastating, but it also brought them closer together. They channeled their grief into raising their son, George Strait Jr. (affectionately known as Bubba), and continued to support one another through the years.

Despite this loss, the Strait family found joy in their growing family. In 2010, Bubba married Tamara, and they soon began their own family. In February 2012, George and Norma became grandparents to a grandson, George Strait III, lovingly nicknamed “Harvey.” The Straits also welcomed another grandchild in 2016, a baby girl named Jillian Louise Strait.

A New Generation of Straits

As grandparents, George and Norma have passed down their love for family, tradition, and music to the next generations. Their grandson, Harvey, represents the next chapter in the Strait family legacy, and George and Norma are excited to see their children and grandchildren continue to grow and thrive.

Looking to the Future

As George Strait continues to reign in the music world, his personal life with Norma remains a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment. Their incredible journey, filled with joy, loss, and resilience, continues to inspire fans around the world. We look forward to seeing what comes next for this remarkable couple and their family.
