Introduction
Country superstar Trace Adkins has never been shy about where he stands—whether it’s on stage, in support of America’s military, or in his personal life. But in a recent interview that’s catching attention online, Adkins opened up about something more personal: his enduring friendship with fellow country icon and The Voice star, Blake Shelton.
“We’re like brothers,” Adkins said with a chuckle. “Sometimes we roll our eyes at each other. Sometimes we don’t talk for a bit. But if the phone rings and one of us needs something—you better believe we’re there.”
The pair’s bond goes back nearly two decades, forged through shared stages, mutual respect, and a whole lot of laughs. Fans may remember their hilariously catchy 2009 duet, “Hillbilly Bone,” which not only climbed the charts but also became an anthem of country pride. What many don’t know is that it also marked the beginning of a genuine friendship between two very different men.
“He’s a smart aleck, and I’m a grumpy old man,” Adkins joked. “But it works somehow.”
Over the years, the two stars have supported each other through highs and lows—career changes, family challenges, and personal growth. Adkins, who has publicly faced struggles including addiction recovery and personal loss, credits friends like Shelton for helping him stay grounded.
“Blake has a way of reminding you not to take everything so seriously,” he said. “And at the same time, he’s one of the most loyal people I know.”
That loyalty was on full display in 2019, when Blake Shelton officiated Trace Adkins’ wedding to actress Victoria Pratt in New Orleans. The ceremony, which took place in a quiet garden setting, was filled with laughter, heartfelt vows, and Shelton’s signature humor.
“I figured if anyone could keep it together long enough to pronounce us husband and wife, it’d be Blake,” Adkins laughed. “He almost didn’t. But it made the day unforgettable.”
Despite their busy schedules, Adkins and Shelton continue to stay in touch. They often exchange music ideas, send each other jokes, and even appear together at charity events. Adkins says that Shelton’s success on The Voice never changed who he is at the core.
“He’s still the same Oklahoma boy who likes to fish, make fun of me, and sing his heart out,” Adkins said. “Fame didn’t change that.”
While there are no confirmed plans for another duet, fans have been vocal on social media about wanting a reunion between the two. When asked about the possibility, Adkins simply smiled: “We’ve always said, if the right song comes along… you never know.”
